January 12, 201016 yr I need some help is trying to solve a problem, so I thought I would pose it here. It has nothing to do with UnRaid, but since mostly everyone here uses there system for movies I thought I should start here. I have been attempting to download info from IMDB and use it in an Excel format which I know is not the best, but that is what I need. Anyway, I have attempted to use IMDB-GRB .5.5, which is exactly what I was looking for, but for some reason the system does not grab the Writer/Director/Actor infomation and that is what I need. The total info I need is the IMDB#, Title, Production Year, Writer, Director, if TV name of show and episode. Does anyone have ideas how I can get this information in a table format. I was going to download the entire database if possible. Any help would be vety much appreciated..
January 12, 201016 yr You can indeed download the entire IMDB database legally. However it is somewhat cryptic but that would be a good start. Scraping IMDB is a constant struggle as they change their site. As recent as last week they blocked certain user agent for a day randomly with no explanation.
January 14, 201016 yr IMDB keeps changing the webpage layout and when they do that, the web-page scraping programs are broken until they are updated. I'm curious why you want the data in a XL format? Peter
January 14, 201016 yr I'm curious why you want the data in a XL format? I too was wondering that. Why don't you manage your collection with something like DVD Profiler? It can export its database in xml format, from where I extract metadata for my SageTV and XBMC frontends.
January 15, 201016 yr Author The question is posed as to why I need the format in XL.. The reason is that data that I receive is in XL format which only includes the TITLE /Episode / YEAR of PRODUCTION. From this information I need other key fields for lookup. Since this is the format I receieve the data, conversion is much easier. I then need to export the fields into a program that accepts XL format as well. This needs to be done with quite a bit of data and it is a serious hassle to import, compare, convert, export back to Excel since I have many files to do this to.
