New Parity Drive Added, Has the Preclear run? - Answered

Featured Replies

Hi Guys

Having recently moved home and now that my server is more accessible I decided to upgrade, I successfully upgraded from 4.7pro to 6.1.9 with no issues I have always used my server on a regular basis for backing up my PC's and as a media server with no issues at all. My original parity drive had been slowly failing so I have purchased a 5TB replacement which I installed today (02/08/16). I assigned it with no issues.

My question is :-

I started the array and MAIN says  "Parity-Sync in progress." But has a pre-clear been performed as the manual states it is automatic. How can I verify this and would a parity check / rebuild run without a pre-clear?

Thank you

Paul

unRAID never preclears a disk, any new data disk added to the array is cleared to maintain parity, parity disks do not need clearing.

If you want to preclear a disk for testing purposes it has do be done prior to adding it to the array, using the preclear script or plugin.

Just one more thing I forgot to mention, besides testing, preclear is also very useful when adding a data disk to unRAID v6.1 or older, if the disk is not precleared the array will be offline during the clearing process, this can be several hours, starting with unRAID 6.2 clearing is done in the background an array remains online.
