Best practices for backing up unraid config

Featured Replies

Unraid is perfect for backing up data, but how about backing up unraid itself? (vm templates, dockers, array conf, appconf...)

What are the common/best practices you guys are following?

Have you installed awesome plugins like Community Applications (CA)/Fix Common Problems (FCP)?

If so, you can use their ability to perform automatic backups of the unraid configuration.

CA will backup your flash drive, create a text file detailing your current drive assignments, backup up all of your appdata, and has support for extra scripts to properly shutdown your VM's / anything else you might need to have happen before and after a backup.  I do it weekly, and have CA set to always keep 2 complete backup sets at all times before it deletes any old sets.

I'm not following regarding CA. Isn't that simply a plugin that manages other plugins/makes it easier to search and install?

CA is like the unRAID equivalent of app store with perks.

It's anything I can come up with that is app management related

That's what it originally was. I think it's fair to say that it has suffered somewhat from 'feature bloat' :)

Joking aside, I wouldn't use Unraid without it, it's essential.

No it is so much more than that. I would never use unraid without it. As mentioned before, it includes the ability to backup unraid configurations.
