NVMe As Cache?

Featured Replies

Has anyone used NVMe as a Cache drive yet?  Any performance boost?  I would expect that NVMe would just be an expensive SSD at this point since the limiting factor is the network (I'm 1GB/s enet).  I supposed moving to 10GB Enet might make a difference...?

If anyone is using it, which adapter?  X4? X8, X16?  Challenges?  I'm looking to replace a failed Cache drive and 'just wondering'...

The limiting factor depends on the use case for the cache drive. If you copy a lot of data to your server, the network will be a limitation, but for running VM's and downloads you will see a boost in performance.

I run an Intel ssd for my two windows VM's and have done this a long time. I haven't tried 6.2 though, as I'm still on 6.1.9 and mounts the nvme disk through the go file.
