Removing AFP On A User Share Safely

Hello. I was testing both afp and smb with a user share on my unraid server.  It seems that smb might work quite well with the Mac verses the AFP protocol.  I'm now thinking about disabling and removing  AFP on the share and going with smb going forward.  Would simply disabling the AFP on the share be adequate or is there anything else that I need to keep in mind to safely remove AFP from the share completely? Thanks.
