August 17, 20169 yr Hi all, Are there any best practices for making the unraid webgui accessible outside your lan through a reverse proxy? (I am moving away for a year and can't take my server with me) I could only find this similar thread http://lime-technology.com/forum/index.php?topic=39868.msg373620#msg373620
August 17, 20169 yr Best practice? - DON'T EVEN THINK ABOUT IT!!! If you want to access your Unraid webui from outside your LAN then setup OpenVPN. Personally I use the linuxserver.io OpenVPN-AS container.
August 17, 20169 yr Author Thanks CHBMB. Any chance you can point me in the right direction for configuring OpenVPN-AS? I tried to configure openvpn and opened up port 943 on my router. When I go to mydomain.com:943 I get a certificate warning (since I use an apache proxy with SSL) and I cannot proceed further (due to HSTS). The openvpn quickstart guide did not help much.

Don't forward 943 on your router. That's for the web interface. Open the page at http://unraidip:943/admin in the local network (or simply click on the webui link for the container in the unraid gui), login with admin password and you can set it up. There, you can select a custom port for vpn and set up the credentials and such Afterwards, you can download the openvpn profile on each device at the same address (at the root instead of /admin)
