Upgrading Disk

Featured Replies

So I need to upgrade one of my disks. I read the wiki already on what to do however it didn't answer my main question.

I normally preclear all my disks before putting them into the array. However I am out of room on my server to add another drive to do the preclear script. If I just do the normal disk upgrade will my array be online while it's doing it's thing? Taking the array down for a day or 2 isn't really any option since it's my media server for all the TV's in the house.

So..Do I need to be putting together a crap machine from parts just to preclear or will I be good to do the normal upgrade option.

Array will be unavailable if you're on v6.1, available if you're on v6.2.

This only if you're adding a disk, if replacing an existing disk array will be always online.

If replacing an existing disk with a larger disk, it is not required for the disk to be clear. If you want to test the disk anyway (recommended) you can use the drive manufacturer's software to test it on another computer.

I am running 6.1.9 and yes I am upgrading an old 1TB with a 4TB. But it looks like I got my answer! I wish I could test it...no USB cradle & I have ditched all desktop computers in my home & gone with tablets and laptops. I guess in the future I may need to purchase one.
