[SOLVED] eSATA or USB 3.0 controller card support in unRAID 6.1.9 / PEXESAT322I

Featured Replies

I am running a four plus year old unraid server with:

Supermicro X9SCM motherboard / 8GB ECC RAM / Xeon E3-1230 V2 @ 3.30GHz / 20 1-4TB drives. 500GB SSD cache.

Unraid 6.1.9

Server has been running very well.

I currently have USB 2.0 ports on the motherboard.

I would like some eSATA ports or USB 3.0 ports for doing some external transfers and drive preclears.

I purchased a StarTech eSATA/SATA controller card a few days ago, model: PEXESAT322I

https://www.startech.com/Cards-Adapters/HDD-Controllers/SATA-Cards/2-Port-PCI-Express-SATA-6-Gbps-eSATA-Controller-Card~PEXESAT322I

I installed it and did not have any luck getting the eSATA ports to work with an eSATA external hard drive dock out of the box.

Any tips on troubleshooting the PEXESAT322I controller card, or a recommendation for a USB 3.0 controller card that works out of the box with unRAID 6.1.9?

That card uses the ASMedia ASM1061 chip, which is supported and should just work. Type

lspci -v

at the command prompt and you should see it listed and using the ahci kernel module driver. It's a two channel controller and each channel can be set to internal or external. You have set the links appropriately, have you? Test it with an internal disk. If you can't get it to work post your diagnostics zip.
