KVM + Chrome RD = Remote Access Without VPN

Featured Replies

I know this is probably dumb; but I was sick of having to mess with my VPN. My ISP & network was giving me all kinds of grief and Plex didn't like it.

So I came up with a terrible way to remote access my unRAID without VPN.

I installed a virtual machine; and installed Chrome Remote Desktop on it.

:o

You talked about VPN so presumably you are talking about accessing the VM from outside of the network?

Does Chrome RD works from outside of the network? I thought not.

I use Chrome RD to connect to a PC at home from my work PC (on completely different networks)

@testdasi,

Yes, that's the reason I went with Chrome RD. It works similar to some of the paid services from companies like Citrix, where you enter a key and can remote in from different networks, without having to use a VPN service.

With Google RD, if you have both Chrome browsers set up to the same Google account, you only have to enter the pin once and it will be saved on both computer. Remote in anytime, no VPN'ing required.
