September 2, 20169 yr after a 5TB pre-clear that took more than 5 days... I cannot reboot unraid. Diagnostics show this Sep 1 21:02:34 MEGATRON emhttp: Start array... September 2, 20169 yr Community Expert All your disks have dropped. Check that your controller is properly seated. Tell us about your hardware.
September 2, 20169 yr Author I am sure the cards are seated. They both show up in the bios prior to unraid start. I have two of these: Supermicro SAT2-MV8 8Port SATA PCI-X Controller Card Low Profile The motherboard is: https://www.supermicro.com/Aplus/motherboard/Opteron2000/MCP55/H8DAE-2.cfm I purchased one of these: http://www.ebay.com/itm/FreeNAS-Storage-15-bay-with-LSI-SATA-Controllers-FreeBSD-Linux-UNRAID-/331954147532?hash=item4d4a0250cc:g:88UAAOxy9ERSRCdb 14 disks of various sizes. This occurred when I was trying to preclear before replacing a redball (red x). I have been using it for 2 years without too much problems.
September 2, 20169 yr Community Expert SAT2-MV8 driver crashed on startup, so all disks on those controllers will be missing, did you recently upgraded unRAID or any other changes? You can try updating to latest rc.
September 2, 20169 yr Author I did not upgrade any software. But I did just finish the longest preclear ever using preclear beta. It took 5 or 6 days. Is there a chance I killed the MV8 controller with that workout? It was a used controller so maybe it was just too much? I dunno. I can upgrade to the latest RC to see if it helps. I also tried pulling the new 5 TB drive to make sure it wasnt an issue with the new Toshiba drive. I just added it. This is the one. https://amzn.com/B013JPLKQK I don't think this is the problem, but I figure I would let you all know.
September 2, 20169 yr Author I just ordered a couple of replacement MV8s just in case. If its not the problem, I will build a second server.
September 2, 20169 yr Community Expert Maybe too late if you already ordered them, but I would buy a PCIe controller instead, preferably something LSI based, or even the SAS2LP, the SAT2 are still supported but in my experience they have some issues with latest unRAID releases. I have one that stop working on an Intel board when I upgraded from unRAID v5 to v6, I then got a Supermicro board and continued to work until v6.1, since v6.2 it doesn't work anymore, unRAID crashes on boot. Having said that there are still many users using them without issues, but IMO for the future a PCIe controller would be best.
September 2, 20169 yr Author I really would like to move away from the old supermicro board all together and use one of the core i5's I have lying around. I just cant bring myself to tackle replacing the mother board in the supermicro 15 drive enclosure. Do you have a card you recommend instead of the MV8?
September 2, 20169 yr Community Expert LSI seems to be the best option at the moment, like the LSI 9211-8i, most people buy cheaper IBM 1015 or Dell H310 from ebay, both can be then be flashed to LSI IT mode.

I am having a similar issue on a pretty new WD red 3TB drive, wondering if upgrading from 6.1 to 6.2 would solve this?
September 2, 20169 yr Community Expert I am having a similar issue on a pretty new WD red 3TB drive, wondering if upgrading from 6.1 to 6.2 would solve this? It won't hurt to try, but it seems this controller gets more problematic with newer unRAID releases.
