Plex software transcode was really bad here, TVH is quite good with transcoding and comskip on cpu usage (personally dont use it anymore since plex hardware transcode). i see and sorry, have mixed you both guys up. good to see that the hardware transcode with intel quicksync-feature seems to work (and that software projects as plex do pick it up). but as always, it's just on pretty new cpus so not for me Quote Link to comment
Frostyfruit
Hi all thanks for the great feedback. I plan to avoid transcoding where I can. I am wanting to connect to HD HomeRuns (dual tuner each) to TV Head end and then use the Kodi plugin to watch live TV and record. Not sure if this will need any transcoding or not all my gear is wired via Gigabit. If anyone has any advice on this it would be ace! Quote Link to comment
alturismo
i only need transcoding for external view ... mobil, work trips,... local there shouldnt be any need for transcoding at all ... only if you have devices wich dont support direct playback ... example, Plex on chrome browser doesnt direct play live tv ... kodi of course does the job. If anyone has any advice on this it would be ace! your HD HomeRuns stream directly to TVH, or in other words: TVH tells them to stream a channel (or several at the same time), whenever it records or wants to tune on a channel for Live TV – so no transcoding here. your clients (which receive from TVH) are the ones which define if transcoding comes into play. if you use KODI, there shouldn't be any transcoding necessary. Frostyfruit
Hi all got the docker installed on my UNRAID Box. However TVHD cant see any of my HDhomeRun Tuners. Can anyone provide me with any guidence on this? I assume I will need to install the HD HomeRun Drivers on my UNRAID Server. Id prefer not do this by trial and error so hoping some one can guide me of possible on the package / how to install? Thanks! Quote Link to comment

Frostyfruit
OK! I got this working! very happy with the playback so far in Kodi using the TVHD plugin. The issue I am having is my EPG Data keeps disappearing randomly in Kodi. - sometimes its there when I goto TV guide - other times its blank and I have to go back and forth for it to populate - all the EPG data is in TVHD (via OTA Grabber) (As I am only using OTA channels Has anyone had any suggestions on this? I used NextPVR as a test setup a few months ago and definitely didnt hit this issue. However NextPVR playback start times were a little slower.... Any advice would be ace! Quote Link to comment

Sounds like an issue with kodi or the tvheadend plugin in kodi. Haven't heard about it before and have no problems here. If I understand you correctly, the EPG data is visible in tvheadend at all times? Quote Link to comment

What happens if you point config to a new empty folder? The latest tag is the current development and that is expected to be buggy at this point. You could try to post about it on the tvheadend site though. Quote Link to comment
EnorMOZ
So i got it to work by creating a new fresh config directory but it seems like I am missing the EPG Module tabs now. I tried changing the view to Advance along with the user account and it still doesn't show. I tried release 4.2 and latest. Any help would be appreciated. https://imgur.com/a/RDaGa Quote Link to comment
saarg
Looks like you still have it set as basic user interface level. Clear browser cache and log into tvheadend again. Quote Link to comment
thisaone
I have gotten a HDHomerun Prime working with schedules direct EPG; for the most part. However, there are 9 channels that do not work. When I originally ran "map all" on the services they were ignored. I then manually added the channels based on some reading and set the service they connect to. The muxes pages shows them as mapped. I have been reading/trying to find out how to fix them and have discovered a few things that might give clues as to what the problem is. 1. If i play the link from the muxes tab in VLC they work. If I play the link in VLC from the services tab they do not. I do however see and active connection in the status tab when played through the services tab even though there is no output to VLC. 2. I also noticed that all of these channels do not have the "Encrypted" checkbox filled on the services tab, all the other channels do. The above leads me to believe that I can get them to work, but I cannot figure out how. Does anyone have any ideas? I am not sure what additional data/info you might need so let me know and I will get it as soon as possible. Quote Link to comment
saarg
I have no clue why this happens. Never experienced it. If you play the channel through the webui player, what does it say in the log window? You can open it with the arrows in the bottom right corner. Can you add some screenshots of the mux, service and channel that is not working? Quote Link to comment
thisaone
Thanks for offering some help. Here are the screen shots you requested. I included one for the log window output too instead of typing it. On the services tab I did have to set hide to "none" since it says the parents are disabled. On the services tab it shows auto check disabled. I changed that in my attempts to get it working. Quote Link to comment
saarg
Can't say why it's not working, but it's clear from the log that it doesn't find the source of the stream. You can play this channel connecting directly to the HDHomerun? Quote Link to comment
thisaone
I dont have the HDHomerun software on this pc to connnect directly to the HDHromerun. I can check from my other pc later if needed. I can play the channel through the play link in the mux tab through VLC so I know it is working though. The service link is bad, but the mux link is good. Is there a way to use the mux link instead? The logs says no assigned adapters. Is there a way to manually assign the adapter to the channel? Quote Link to comment

I don't know the HDHomerun, so can't tell you how to set it up. But from what I remember, you add the HDHomerun as a device and do not use http streaming. So it might be that you set it up the wrong way. Quote Link to comment
thisaone
Okay, that is entirely possible. There were a lot of instructions spread out for this device. I came up with the following: Enable devices in TVadapter tab. Set up automatic IPTV network using m3u file. Map muxes to services to channels. Since 92 out of 101 were working I figured I was good on the basic setup. Do you have a link to the method you are talking about with it as a device? Quote Link to comment
thisaone
As an update I have gotten a couple more of them to work by forcing the CAID shown on other channels on them. Some still dont work though. I am thinking that maybe they use a different CAID for some reason. Is there a way to view what the CAID is of a channel when I am streaming it? Quote Link to comment
saarg
Google is your friend There is no point in setting up the adapters if you connect to the stream directly using IPTV as you have done, but google how to set it up with tvheadend. Quote Link to comment
thisaone
Okay, thanks anyway. I have googled...a lot. I believe I have set it up correctly from what I have found. I will look for information on setting it up as a device. Quote Link to comment
Yousty
What's the best way to erase all my EPG grabber settings and start fresh? I had Schedules Direct working but then I was messing around in Kodi and accidentally changed my Schedules Direct default lineup and then my EPG in TVH stopped working. I have tried re-running the Schedules Direct setup in TVH from the beginning but I'm still not getting any EPG data. I even tried deleting all the mapped channels in the EPG Grabber Channels tab but nothing shows up anymore when I force an internal grabber run. Quote Link to comment

First off, I deleted the PVR setup in Plex but I forgot to remove the dvb passthrough parameter from the docker so thank you for that advice! Secondly when doing initial network scan I had to only use 1 ATSC-T tuner, for some reason if I used multiple tuners it would fail, so I now have all the channels listed! Now my next question, I am a complete novice when it comes to linux and tvheadend (I was using nextPVR with schedules direct on Windows before). Is there a good step by step guide anywhere for how to setup an EPG grabber for tvheadend in unraid? This could also be due to an issue with the cx23885 code not working well with VT-d /VT-x enabled. See https://www.spinics.net/lists/linux-media/msg119385.html I've changed my syslinux.cfg to set the cx23885 to debug level 5 which has helped - you might want to give that a try and see if it helps eg. append initrd=/bzroot,bzroot-gui cx23885.debug=5 Quote Link to comment
