September 7, 20169 yr Waiting on a new Motherboard with 2 Xeon L5520 CPUs and 64 GB RAM in it. A question about multiple CPUs. Is it accurate that the 2 CPUs will allow double the number of Plex Streams? In other words, does UNRAID, and Plex in particular take advantage of both CPUs?
September 7, 20169 yr Yes, they take advantage of the additional processing power.... well, unRAID by itself doesn't really need that much juice, but you open up way more potential for Plex and other heavy CPU applications like Handbrake.
September 7, 20169 yr Is it accurate that the 2 CPUs will allow double the number of Plex Streams? In other words, does UNRAID, and Plex in particular take advantage of both CPUs? Multiple CPUs are just looked at like more processing cores, no different than a multi-core CPU. Although, similar to a multi-core CPU, typically CPU0 Core0 takes the brunt of the system running threads. As for Plex's processing capabilities, it is entirely dependent on how Plex chooses to transcode the media.
