Cannot access unraid webgui when connected to vpn

Featured Replies

Hi,

I would like to connect to my unraid server from a remote location. i currently have openvpn server setup on my router. when im connected to my vpn from outside my lan i cannot access unraid webgui or ssh. i can access all other pcs on the network besides unraid. i have tried adding iptables rules but it did not work..

this is the rule i added in iptables.

iptables -I INPUT -s xxx.xxx.xx.x -j ACCEPT

any help would be great. thanks

Are you getting assigned an IP on the same subnet as the rest of your LAN while connected through OVPN? It might help to get some more details about your router specifically (pfsense?).

If your VPN is setup correctly you should be able to access all your LAN based web services remotely. I do this all the time. I don't have issues accessing anything. Once I'm connected, it's as if I'm jacked into my network at home.

Can you ping the machine in question at all?

There's a lot of configuration issues you could be facing and very little in the way of detail in your description. From the sounds of it, you aren't facing an Unraid issue, it's a router configuration issue.

Thanks for the reply. I actually figured out my problem last night. I have openvpnClient on my unraid machine. and when that is connected i cannot access the webgui when im connected to my house vpn remotely. both vpns are different subnets. My house VPN is a different subnet than my lan but i do have access to everything on my lan as long as firewall rules are set properly. When i disconnect OpenVPN Client from unraid i am able to access the webgui remotly. So, I beleive it is a routeing table issue when unraid server itself is connected to the VPN. would you know of any way to add a specific route to the routing table to allow me to connect to my unraid server when both vpns are connected. My Vpn server is on a linksys router flashed with tomato firmware. Just a side note Internally everything works perfect. No issues there. The problem is when Both my unraid server is connected to a OpenVPNClient and i am accessing my house remotely with the home VPN Server.. I Hope this All makes sense. Thanks.

I didn't realize you were using an outgoing VPN connection on your unraid server, now it makes more sense. The only way I know of to connect back to that is to connect through your VPN IP.

Structurally, it would make more sense to VPN only the applications that need protecting using a SOCKS5 proxy, rather than the entire server -- broadly speaking, that's how I do it.

Either that, or VPN the entire network at the router level, and connect back through that VPN IP (using dyndns?) to your LAN -- but that sounds needlessly complicated to accomplish.

I def do not need the entire server connected to the vpn... i would like to just have 2 dockers connected to the vpn.  Couchpotato and sickrage.. i have tried just routing the vpn just to those 2 dockers with no luck..

Could u point me in the right direction on using a socks5 proxy just for my dockers?

Thats exaclly what i would like to do. Doing the vpnclient at the router level is just not possible bc my router does not have enough power to give me the bandwith i need.. socks5 is def the way to go..

Thanks again for ur help

How do you do this? I have been asking for months how to access LAN resources on a client connected via a VPN.

I have my VPN running fine except it cannot access network resources. I can ping IP addresses on my local network.

My VPN connections are set up on a different tunnel network, that's what people on the PFSense forums said had to occur.

I cannot seem to find any settings that will allow me to access my unRaid shares over a VPN. How are you doing? What did you do to get it to work?
