September 10, 20169 yr Hi, I've got a problem by starting my VM's I upgraded my CPUs from two "Intel® Xeon® CPU E5405" to two "Intel® Xeon® CPU X5472" My motherboard is a "Supermicro X7DWN+" I resetted the BIOS and enabled virtualization (VT-x) but unRAID shows in the "Info" popup that HVM and virtualization is not available. So my VMs won't start... Can someone help me pls? ~crazy
September 10, 20169 yr Community Expert First thing. You need to attach the diagnostics file. Another suggestion is to install the Dynamix System Info plugin. It can provide you with much information about your system and its settings. You can find it here: http://lime-technology.com/forum/index.php?topic=36543.0 After installation, it will be on the 'Tools' page and called 'System Profiler'
September 10, 20169 yr Similar thread with some things to try. http://lime-technology.com/forum/index.php?topic=51059.msg496615#msg496615 Did these CPU's come in a retail box?

September 11, 20169 yr see if there is an upgrade for your mb bios. After updating re check vtx is enabled in bios as this may be reset after update.
September 11, 20169 yr As jonathan also noted, these may be engineering samples. Do the processors have "ES" stamped on them? Or are they marked "Confidential" instead of showing the full designation? [e.g. "Confidential" instead of being stamped "Xeon X5472"] If this is the case, they may not support vt-x ... which would, of course, explain your problem
September 11, 20169 yr Author Hi, they got the full model number stamped on the heatspreader, so I guess that they aren't ES. I put the old CPU's back in and voilà: HVM is enabled... I don't think that updating the BIOS would help because they're recognized by the motherboard and the server starts without showing any errors. ~crazy Sent from my SHIELD Tablet using Tapatalk

September 11, 20169 yr Can't find a CPU Support list for this motherboard; but I agree you should update the BIOS if you're not already at the latest version (B19). It's not unusual that BIOS updates include support for newer CPUs => the fact that your CPU is "working" doesn't mean the BIOS has full support for that CPU. In fact, the best approach would be to do the BIOS update with a fully supported CPU ... so it would be best to do the upgrade with the E5405's installed => THEN try the "new" CPUs.
