Define R5 installation problems - Help needed with Molex

Featured Replies

The final parts for my 1st unRAID build http://uk.pcpartpicker.com/list/qHdrvV arrived yesterday and all went well except for:

(i) dead mobo (replacement coming tomorrow)

(ii) I can't fit the 4 pin molex into the Gigabyte GA-X99P-SLI that is recommended if you run more than 1 GPU.  The problem is that in my R5 case the hole I've circled in the attachment where the molex would need to go through is too far to the left for it to fit.

How necessary is this, particularly if cards have their own power supply?  I'm going to put a HD6450 and GT 710 in initially, and probably another GT 710 in the future and maybe a more powerful card like a RX480.

If needed, other than getting a new case (really don't want to do as loved the R5 and I've done all my cabling now and just need the new mobo) is there a slimmer 4 pin molex adapter I can buy?  If I can find one that's not as long as the standard one it will fit. Or, one with a right angle.

First see if you even need it if your card has dedicated power.  Try it without it and if you run into stability issues then you need it.  The second option is to mod the case.  Third is to try to find a plug that will fit.
