Sorry to bother you guys again. Quick question... Is there any truth to the idea that drives in external enclosure are of lesser quality than bare drives? The price difference is super tempting and everywhere i read i see people saying yes and people saying no..

external drives are usually the desktop or 'green' for western digital versions. The issue is warranty. Once removed the drive is no longer covered under warranty.

Yea, i am aware of those points. The warranty thing sucks. There is some debate however that they put lesser quality drives in them. For example, if they have greens in them they will sell the best greens bare and put the lesser quality greens in externals.

 

 

I could get 4 8TB drives for the same price as 4 6TB

 

Edit: Ordered bare drives. Not worth it.
