Test new drives on windows?

Featured Replies

I just got some drives in for an unRAID build (my first NAS of any kind). I wont actually be able to build the system for a few days to a week. All i have is my main windows PC. I was going to use the preclear plugin (probably still will) but i would like to start testing them now so i can return any if i have to. Is there a good program that i can use do this one by one VIA putting them in an external USB 3 enclosure? I need to be able to use this PC for the days it will likely take to test these 6TB drives.

The drive manufacturers have something you can download that will run on Windows.

lol yea, i was just wondering if there was anything more "thorough". Like bad blocks or preclear.

I think they have some options that do a pretty thorough test. Just be aware that these won't result in a disk that unRAID will recognize as a clear disk, so if you need to add them to a new slot in a parity array they will have to be cleared to maintain parity.

I have no idea what that means hehe :D

I will just use WD tools for now and preclear when i build the system :)
