server won't boot after replacing data drive

Featured Replies

hi all.  had a drive throw up a lot of pending sectors today.  deselected drive, powered down.  installed my precleared, ready to go replacement drive.  booted up.  selected new drive in old drive slot.  started array.  array hung at 'mounting disks'.  left this for an hour.  did hard reboot

now i can access server through putty, but not through webgui.  is there a way to get logs from putty?

i can see that when i check cd mnt i can see up to drive 6, but there should be about 17 drives.  i think its still hanging on the new drive (number 6) but unsure what to do about it

EDIT:  was able to paste from the logs, accessed through putty.  there is a line in there saying 'resizing disk 6' which is the new 8tb disk, replacing a 3tb disk.  could this be the delay?  any thoughts?

Since you can get in using Putty, I would suggest that you type  diagnostics on the command line.  That will write the diagnostics files to your Flash drive in the  'logs' folder.

I would also suggest that after you shut the server down to get the Flash Drive out, that you check to make sure that all of the power and data connectors are firmly seated on the drives.  (It is too easy to loosen one connector while changing out another.)

hmmm odd.  so went to bed with the server stuck at booting up; seemlngly stuck at disk 6.  about 6 hours later, the server completed boot and started rebuild.  rebuild appears to be going extremely slow- at 2 hours in, it is at 0.1% and is running at about 500k per second.

now able to get logs (attached).  any advice?  says rebuild will take 180 days!  my regular parity check (not the same thing) takes about 1.5 days...

EDIT:  after about 3 hours at that super slow speed, it seems to have jumped up to 30mb per second.  not sure why but finish time seems more reasonable.  any theories?
