September 15, 20169 yr Hi people! . I'm a happy UnRAID user but, since I'm installing a couple of Synology NAS to a couple of customers, I find some of the apps they have quite interesting. Specially two: the sync app, and the music app. At my home office I use all Apple products (2 macbooks, 2 iPhones, 2 iPads, 1 Mac Mini and 1 Hackintosh). I don't like any of the public cloud services out there (Dropbox, iCloud, etc.) and I'm thinking, as I have tons of space on my own server and a good internet connection (80up/80down Mbps ), why can't I have something to sync some folders between the Macs and some music from unRAID to the iphone/ipad? I've tried Owncloud some years ago, and I was not really convinced (I don't want docs/spreadsheets functions online, I use local apps on the Macs). It was not as reliable as it should. I'm using Google Drive, but I have to keep looking at the space I use and delete files from time to time. And I don't like iTunes way of syncing music to the iOS devices (I don't want cables to sync music to the phones). Is anybody out there in a similar situation with suggestions or success stories? . The two main things I look for are: simplicity and reliability.
October 13, 20169 yr even if you post is a bit older now, maybe I can help Synology only looks nice at first, especially audio station is a mess. cloud station also has some really annoying (and fatal) bugs. unRAID has docker, and docker has resilio sync (which is awesome if you go pro) and plex (which is WAY better then photo station video staion IMHO). Music can be done with something like cloudbeats (iOS app) + webdav or, again, plex.
October 13, 20169 yr Have you looked at Resilio or SyncThing docker containers? My preference is for syncthing as it's open source...
October 13, 20169 yr syncthing has some troubles when using it on different OSes with different users and need to access the files directy on the server. Example: OSX (and other distros) creates new files with 644 - syncthing syncs theses permissions to the NAS and nobody (except the owner) can modify them directly on it. thats why resilio is better when using it with multiple users.

Nice that you have some experience with Synology apps. I was not meaning that their apps were better, just that they look nice and simple . I already use Plex, and also Air Video HD, and both are great for video, I don't need alternatives there. My two "things I would like to improve" are files syncing and music. I've been researching also about Resilio (BTSync). I used the beta some years ago and I ended up uninstalling it when it got impossible to delete one folder (instead of also deleting it on the other devices, it was recreated again on my main computer), but it was beta, so maybe better is more reliable. I like very much the simplicity to connect both over LAN and WAN, and the flexibility to selectively sync just some folder. I think I'll give it a second try . Which docker/plugin do you recommend me for Resilio? I've seen there's one "official" docker from Limetech, but it seems it's not updated frequently . About Syncthing, while it looks promising, I thing it's not ready for production yet . I'll try it when it reaches 1.0 release Thanks guys for your ideas!

Syncthing I've found very reliable and I generally ignore version numbering as it's so arbitrary, if the devs had renamed it V1.0 it wouldn't change a thing other than your perception and SABnzbd a very popular app for many years only reached v1.0.0 on the 15th March this year.

Yes, yes, I know about that, but after researching a little about Syncthing, the only thing that stopped me was the setup. It seems to be quite difficult, without a GUI, just using the command line . By the way, Resilio is not an option anymore. I did a test between two Macs and one iPhone with just 5 files. One of them was a Numbers spreadsheet. To test it, I just edited that file after it was synced, just to check how it behaves with edits and versions. Right after editing it, it propagated to the other Mac and iPhone as a 0kb file, and when I tried to reopen it on the same Mac I used to edit the first time, it was corrupted too. In less than 10 minutes, the first BIG issue, so I won't use it
October 19, 20169 yr Syncthing does have a webgui, that's how I configured it, never used the CLI for it. Sent from my LG-H815 using Tapatalk
