Promise Tech SATA300 TX4 raid controller

Featured Replies

Ok, for starters, I have a AMD based Biostar GeForce 6100 M9 motherboard.  I have 2 SATA ports on the mobo itself that are used by a 1.5 tb hard drive and a Optical drive.  I bought another 1.5 tb Western Digital Green hard drive and wanted it on my computer.  I have this Promise Tech SATA300 TX4 raid controller on my kids computer, a Dell Dimension 3000, and it works very well.  I built this computer with the Biostar mobo for me and I need more space, so I decided to relocate the raid controller to this new one.

Read carefully, this is my problem...

Starting from working condition, I installed the Sata card in the PCI slot and powered on the system.  The system booted normally and I installed a program called, "Promise Disk Control Manager"  (the icon displays a lightening bolt with 'PDCM" for the title)  And I went to the Promise tech website and downloaded and installed the bios for the card.  Now, the device manager recognized that there was a RAID device installed and displayed the card name and model.  So I shut down the system and connected the Western Digital Green 1.5 tb hard drive and powered on the system.  The computer boots normally and even displays the Sata card bios and detects the hard drive.  Then the windows XP loading logo appears and does it's thing, then the monitor goes completely black for 3-5 minutes, then the computer forces a reboot.  It repeats this until I shut off the system and remove the card.  Then, the computer works like nothing happened.  I reinstalled the card and booted in safe mode, and it allows me to get to my profile.  I checked the device manager and it displays the card and model and even the properties says that the device is working properly.  But, when I power cycle the system, the black screen appears again and it doesn't do anything.

I contacted Promise Tech technical support and they suggested disabling my serial and parallel ports on the back of the mobo.  That didn't work and they said since it works perfectly on the Dimension, that it must be something on the mobo preventing it from working properly.  I contacted Biostar and the tech had no documentation on my Motherboard.  And had absolutely no conception that Promise Tech ever existed.  But, he did email his 'headquarters' in attempt for them to figure out what is going on, if they want to take the time to do so.  But, he said that it will take at least 24 hours because they are in Taiwan, and it is Tuesday night for them.

Does anyone know what is going on?  I just need some help! ???
