I think I screwed up

Featured Replies

Hi all.  I just replaced a 2tb drive with an 8.  precleared it, assigned it to the 2tb drive slot, started rebuild, then realized I didn't format it.  So I formatted and then started the rebuild.  It's still rebuilding, but I think I lost all of the info from that drive.  Now of course I want to put that old drive back in to restore that data.  I'd like to make sure I'm doing that correctly.  Any advice?

Thank you!

I'm currently considering two options.  1.  Let the 8tb drive rebuild itself (another 20 hours). Then take the old disk install it on a windows pc and copy all of the contents.  Or 2.  Wait until the rebuild and place it back in the array and see if I can copy the contents without mounting it to the array.  What would happen if I stopped the rebuild on the 8tb drive and just put the 2tb drive back in there?  What do you think?

It won't let put a smaller disk, you can do a new config.

Just FYI to everyone. I installed my old disk as a cache drive and it is migrating all of the files to the array!

That's actually pretty clever... good idea!

You could have also used the Unassigned Devices plugin to mount and copy them in that way as well.
