Reduce drives in a server

I have a server that currently has 7 drives plus a parity drive. I need to remove four drives from the server. What is the best way to do this? Umount the array, power down, remove the drives, power up, do a new config? There is no data on the array so I am not worried about that. I do have an SSD with a VM installed, thats about it.
