How to start fresh?

Featured Replies

Now that 6.2 is out, I'm wondering how I can have a fresh start on my unraid server.

I installed 6.2 on a new usb, but whenever I try to create array, it tries to have a parity and from somewhere pulls user share that I used to have with my old config.

I tried stopping the array and used "New Config" as well, but as soon as I start my array, the same happens.

Is there anyway for me to have a fresh start?

All root level folders on your data drives are classified as user shares.

The freshest start you can make without reformatting all your hard drives to get rid of the shares (and lose all your data in the process) would be just save a copy of the key file stored within the config folder on the flash drive, make a note of all of your current drive assignments, format the stick and install 6.2 downloaded via LT's website.  Put the key file you grabbed earlier back into the config folder.  Boot it up and reassign your disks

I actually reformatted my usb, and installed 6.2 on a brand new usb. Shouldn't that have accomplished what you're reffering to?

Yup.  But like I said, your user shares are going to be automatically recreated no matter what you do short of formatting the disks and losing all the data.

ah got it, is there anyway to quickly reformat all drives?

Ok, first, are you SURE you don't want anything left? Just totally empty drives ready to hold new data? If so, in the main gui click on each of the disk 1, 2, etc. in turn and change file system type to something other than what the current format is, and then start the array, selecting the check box to format all the unmountable drives. Stop the array, and do exactly the same thing, only changing the format type back to what you want. Start and format again, and you are done.

Really?  OK.    Stop the array.  Click on each disk in turn.  Change the file system from xfs to BTRFS.  Start the array and there will be a check box to format the drives.  I would recommend doing this again and changing the format back to xfs also.

Just be 100% Sure that you do not want any files on the drives.  They will all be gone

Thanks Guys, I can download all mycontents again, so I'm not too worried about them, but then I just realized unraid doesn't really have a quick format so it could days days before having unraid back up and running. is there any quicker way of getting rid of all my shares?

Not sure why you think it will take days. If you follow the instructions you were given, it will be 10 minutes max.
