clean install of 6.2 yields blank screen

Featured Replies

My attempted update to version 6.2 (via web browser) went south: Array Operation (and other tabs) showed nothing but a blank screen.  I followed the instructions via a recent topic:

and installed a clean download of 6.2 to a new flash drive (when copying files off of the current boot flash drive I got some strange behavior, though all files did copy, prompting me to fear that the drive, which is quite old, could be problematic).  I could not get the server to start at all (i.e., nothing on monitor).  I then tried a different flash drive and this time got to the BIOS screen followed by a blank screen with a blinking cursor.

Was makebootable successful when it ran?

yes, makebootable ran without issue.

I booted back to the old (6.1.9) flash drive.  I have attached the screenshot.  Note that no drives appear.  On the bottom it can be seen that parity is, apparently, being checked.  No other tabs show any information.

A blank screen with a blinking cursor very likely simply means that the BIOS is attempting to boot to something other than your flash drive.

Go into the BIOS and be sure you've got the flash drive set as the first boot device.  Note that in some cases the flash drive is treated as a hard disk; so you'll have to set the first boot device as the hard disk group, and then set the flash drive as the first drive in that list.

yep, boot drive sequence is correct.  I restarted (original flash drive, with version 6.1.9) in Safe Mode and can now see drives, etc.  I ran Diagnostics and have attached zipped file.

Should I attempt to update (via browser) to 6.2 now, in safe mode?  I imagine it would be better to troubleshoot possible plugin problems before I attempt that?

Thanks for your help.
