September 18, 20169 yr I've got 4 of them. Apparently they are the same as greens but after this.. https://www.reddit.com/r/techsupport/comments/539bsm/hdd_wd_blue_4tb_makes_a_noise_every_few_seconds/ I am not sure what to do hehe (also should i try that 4TB to 300 seconds?)
September 18, 20169 yr Never had to use it on my Green drives (when I had some - only have RED WD drives in service along with other Manufacturers) and unRAID. Probably because I write once and read many and do it in batches and the drives set idle and spun down by unRAID 90% of the time.
September 18, 20169 yr Author Makes sense. I guess i will be in the same situation. I will just be using this for storage. But i might get into sonnar/nzbs/plex and stuff so iduno.
September 18, 20169 yr Wdidle still works the same on the new Blues, just make sure you power off after setting it, if you only reboot the disk starts acting up.
September 18, 20169 yr Author I guess i will try 300 seconds. My 4TB (in my reddit post) REALLY did not like disabled. It was almost like it was turning off and back on every 3 seconds. Set it to 8 seconds and its totally find now. Good thing i figured it out as i was just about to toss it since it had no warrenty hehe
September 18, 20169 yr Mine are all disable without any issues, 2, 3, 4 and 6TB greens and some newer 4TB blues.
September 18, 20169 yr Author I'd really love to know what was going on with that blue 4tb then .. I'll try 300 seconds on these 6TBs and see how it goes.
September 18, 20169 yr I'd really love to know what was going on with that blue 4tb then .. I'll try 300 seconds on these 6TBs and see how it goes. Like I said above you have to power down after running the util, if you just reboot they'll start parking constantly.
September 18, 20169 yr Author 4TB drive was powered down multiple times. If your talking about the new drives then yea i will do that EDIT: 300 seconds isnt making the 4TB go insane like disable did. Guess i will use that on the 6TB drives.
September 18, 20169 yr Author Oh, i think i just realized what you were saying haha. I might have disabled the timer months back but didnt power down right after so that might have been causing the insanity? I will try disabling it again and powering down right away on the 4TB drive.
