Can't replace cache drive

Featured Replies

Got my hands on a SAS Seagate 800 GB SSD, I can't replace my current SATA OCZ 120GB SSD as my only cache drive.

I was previously using the Seagate SSD with the Unassigned Devices plugin, I can move the other SATA Seagate 3 TB HDD that I am also using with Unassigned Devices and it goes into the slot fine. The SSDs are on the same controller and the same mini-SAS to SAS/SATA breakout.

I've tried starting the array in maintenance mode, as well as rebooting. It still will not take the 800GB SDD, any ideas?

diagnostics?

I will do the following before pulling it:

Power On (it's off currently)

Start Array with old cache drive

Stop Array

Attempt to switch to new cache drive (at this point it goes to "No Device" on an automatic page refresh)

Anything else I should do before pulling the diagnostics?

Should be enough to see whats happening.

Log shows a sense error for that device, I believe right after you try to use it as cache:

Sep 19 18:33:08 Server kernel: sd 2:0:0:0: [sdh] tag#0 Sense Key : 0x1 [current]
Sep 19 18:33:08 Server kernel: sd 2:0:0:0: [sdh] tag#0 ASC=0x1c ASCQ=0x0

this error means:

Defect List not found

Not sure if this is the reason, as I have no experience with SAS devices, but I'm almost sure it has something to do with it being a SAS device, as they are not well tested with unRAID.

Maybe someone else can help, if not your best bet it to send an email directly to LT.

So now I wonder if there is a way to hard set the cache drive through a config file rather than the GUI... my reason for the upgrade is both larger copy batches and letting Plex go nuts with chapter image creation.

Edit: Tried adjusting the disk.cfg manually... no dice that way.

Tell me if this works: Go to Settings/Display Settings, change "Display world-wide-name in device ID" from Disabled to Automatic.  Then see if you can assign your SAS device to cache.

That let me assign the disk, thanks.

Ooooo, a new tweak!  A quick search, and I can't find any mention of it before now.  Its 'Help' is good, indicates it is for SAS devices only.
