September 19, 20169 yr Its WDC_WD40EZRX - a 4Tb WD Green. Read speed 80 MB/s while write speed 112MB/s. Raw device, of cause. Nothing unusual at SMART. I was planning to use it as a parity drive. It is currently being precleared. Should I not use it? It is very expensive for me.

It is currently being precleared. Should I not use it? It is very expensive for me. Is that sustained write speed? Like for more than the amount of RAM you have? There is some caching to RAM that occurs. I get similar numbers up to about the 8GB mark, then drops to normal as the cached writes start hitting the disk.
September 19, 20169 yr Author That is the speed of preclear write during the first several hour. After that it gradually went down. I don't know the final speed cause it happened at night and I use plugin. Anyway, I have 2Gb of ram in that machine.
