Cant assign drive to parity 2

Featured Replies

Hi, i updated to unraid 6.2 a few days ago. And after doing that I tried to add a brand new 8TB HGST SAS drive to the Parity 2 slot.

Every time I assign it to the parity 2 slot it automatically reverts back to unassigned after about 3-6 seconds... I go like WTF. So I did that a few times before I rebooted the server.

Tried one more time, without any luck... I added a smaller 3 TB SATA drive and tried to add that, and it worked fine.

pls help.

Btw the server uses a supermicro SAS controler (AOC-SASLP-MV8 8port), could that be the source of the problem?

I would suggest you post the diagnostics (Tools->Diagnostics) file covering a period where you tried to assign the 8GB drive.  I have Seagate 8TB drives on that controller without issue so there should not be a controller issue.

BTW:  what browser are you using - some issues have been reported with Chrome not working well with unRAID GUI I believe.

I am using Opera.

What browser would you recommend that I try with?

PS. Do the diagnostic file contain any data regarding passwords, user names, File/folder structures or IP addresses?  DS.

Try this:

Go to Settings/Display Settings, change "Display world-wide-name in device ID" from Disabled to Automatic.

Then see if you can assign your SAS device.

WOW! That fixed it :-p

It would be good to have some type of info about that in the FAQ or some general note/pop-up asking the user to turn that setting on when trying to add a SAS drive :-p

i think the diagnostics files are anonymised.  If you find any cases where private information is still present it will be worth mentioning this so it can be addressed.

It's something we just heard about in the last day or 2.  Johnnie, you want to add it to the FAQ?  If not, I will.

It should be in the FAQ, you do it, you're the FAQ top dog  :P

Done, here.  But I just want to be another dog in the pack.  ;)  And it's always better in my view for more people to contribute.
