January 30, 201016 yr Here's what I want to do: 1) Remove my 1TB Cache drive. (I never use it...) 2) Use it in the Disk1 spot which currently has a 1.5TB drive. (Using that 1.5TB elsewhere) I read somewhere that unRAID has problems replacing drives with smaller drives, but I couldn't find the thread again. Can someone give me a run down of what i'm going to need to do to get around that?
January 30, 201016 yr You can simply add the 1TB as a data drive to the array (unRAID will clear it with zeros first, or you can use Joe's preclear script). Once it is added, manually copy over the data from the 1.5TB drive. Then shutdown and remove the 1.5TB drive. When you restart, the array will not start since the 1.5TB drive is missing. Remove the 1.5TB drive from the array config, start the array, and parity will begin recalculating.
January 30, 201016 yr When you remove the drive from the array you will probably need to use the button labeled "restore" to save a new disk configuration. When you then start the array it will then start a full parity calculation without the removed drive. This must be done whenever you remove a disk from the array.
