Root password moving files

Featured Replies

Hey guys, quick question.  i have been organizing and moving files around on my Unraid server for a couple days.  Im moving a bunch of Indesign files from work from one Unraid drive to another.  It leaves about 10 files on the disk and pops up with an error about not having root security priviledges (sorry i can't remember the exact wording).  So basically i have a drive in my server with a few files that i want deleted now but can't delete them.  Any help would be appreciated.

Also, im on 4.4.2, should i upgrade to the latest even though it's been running flawlessly for a long time now.

How are you moving files around? Win-XP client to disk shares over Samba? Or Mac client? Or do you telnet into your server?

Give some speciffics about what you are doing.  Also, how did you set up passwords on your server?

You could also post a syslog so we can see if there's something wrong.

It's not that you should, but you could. There are some signifficant performance improvements in the latest version.

thanks for the reply.. i have mapped network drives for all my disks from my unRaid to drives on my Windows 7 computer.. So basically i have:

Disk L = \\media (server name)\disk1

Disk M= \\media\disk2

Disk N= \\media\disk3

I am just using Windows explorer to copy files from drive to drive..  I have shares set up but am copying from disk to disk.

Hopefully that helps.

I just set up users with passwords and assigned them access to shares.

I didn't realize it was copying from the server to windows then back to the server.. i will have to look into a better way to copy files on the unRaid, just really didn't think about it.

thanks for the link buddy.  I telnetted in with Putty and after figuring out the interface, i was able to just delete those directories which i couldn't do within Windows explorer.  I am now moving files between drives with MC in a telnet session.  thanks again!

If you have a transfer that will run for a long time, you better run MC on top of screen.

That way you can disconnect(reconnect) from the screen.

Without screen, the moment something interrupts your telnet sesson, your whole transfer gets interrupted.

Purko,

what do you mean on top of screen?  i just minimized it so my kids wouldn't cancel the transfer by mistake.
