September 26, 20169 yr I'm looking at building my first Unraid server, the only parts I've purchased so far are an IBM M1015 and a NorcoRPC-4020 (http://www.norcotek.com/product/rpc-4020/). This would be NAS only, serving media via NFS or SMB to 1-2 simultaneous endpoints. Most of the recommendations I've seen are for tiny motherboards which I don't really need to deal with as the case is quite large (unless there's a good reason to use them, whatever works). What would be a good motherboard / CPU combination for my needs this year?
September 26, 20169 yr I like server grade MBs and ECC memory myself. SuperMicro is popular choice around here for that but I don't have a recomendation for you. If you were thinking of VMs I would suggest something like the Natex E5 deals or EBay(CPU) and ASRock(MB from anywhere) they are a steal but WAAAAAY overkill for NAS only.
