September 28, 20169 yr Finally got everything for my S2600CP2J dual xeon setup and it's amazing. My next plan is to get Windows 10 setup with passthrough graphics and sound so I can use it as a gaming machine. The S2600CP2J doesn't have sound so I'm assuming I'll need some kind of sound card? I don't need anything fancy so would one of those cheap usb sound cards work or are they trouble? For a gpu I was looking at the MSI GTX 1070. Would I have any issues with this card (drivers, passthrough, etc?). Any other suggestions before I venture down this road?
September 28, 20169 yr You will have sound over the HDMI connection from your GPU. But, yes, USB would also work. I actually have a similar setup, Dual Xeons and a Win10 gaming VM. I have an MSI GTX1070 connected via HDMI to a Samsung Home Theater System which is connected to my monitor, this gives me 5.1 sound. I also have a USB soundcard which I use to run my Headset.
December 12, 20169 yr guys I have a problem to passthrough the Gigabyte GTX1070 in my setup. please help. what is the setup you use to make it work pls? Seabios ? i440fx-2.5 ? what the XML looks like in respect to the GPU .... What is the setup in Windows that I need to have? when I am in the VM via VNC I see the 1070 card, have the error 43 code. As I am writing this message, I am trying to learn how to fix it. any suggestions? I have the ROM file dumped for the card, but this is not helping I am able to boot from the 1070 as standalone I have 2 cards. the old GTX560 as primary to boot from in slot 1 (successful) I am able to pass through perfectly the AMD RX480 from another server so the basic "environment" is working. (supermicro x9dai, 2x E5-2670 , 64GbRAM, 4TB disk space) thanks in advance
