Need help. Pre clear fails and array drives have errors

Featured Replies

Hey guys I just did an upgrade from my old X7 supermicro system.  I'm running dual e5-2690 and an asrock ep2c602-4l/d16.  I have my cache plugged into the Marvell controller and my array plugged into the c602 controller.  It seems while running the preclear script, the disk running the script will show failed Unraid signature MBR and my other three disk show to be on the array, but the data is done.  Do a reset of the server and everything comes back.  See below for the log info I pulled.

Thanks

Syslog snippets are seldom sufficient.,

Awesome.  When I get home I will post the requested information.  Hopefully with the right info and your guys help we can figure out what is causing this issue.

  • Author

I attached the entire zip.  Now I took this after a restart of the server to get the array online.  I have started a preclear.disk again to get the error to pop back up.  Thanks for your help!

Any help is appreciated and I thank anyone who takes the time to look through that wall of text.

Why are you using the Marvell ports instead of the much better Intel ones?

Change all disks to the intel PCH ports and your troubles should be over.

  • Author

The marvell ports have the cache on it and it's fine as far as I know.  The other drives are on the Intel ports.  I'll read verify in a minute when. I pop the lid.  Something else is temp readings are not showing up on a few drives.  I'll swap ports anyways to see if there is a difference.

All array disks are on a Marvell controller, SSDs are on Intel.

  • Author

Sorry you are right.  I just saw that in the bios.  Already swapped the cords around and will start another pre clear to see if that fixes anything

  • Author

Hey Johnnie,

Now the ST4000 disk (new 4tb disk) are no longer showing temp.  I started a preclear on both disk to see if the issue still persist.  Are all Marvell controllers bad?  If this works I was going to RMA the board or contact newegg since we havent had this board for a few days.  Thanks again for taking time to help me out.  Also, whats up with the BTRFS no csum errors I was getting in the logs.

  • Author

Just an update the pre-clear is still going and the array is still up.  The two new disk still doesn't show their temp.  More to come!

Are all Marvell controllers bad?

I've seen lots of users with issues with v6 and some Marvell controllers, the 9230 being one the worst offenders, disabling vd-t can sometimes (but not always) fix them.

You have 10 Intel ports, use those, if/when you need more I would get an HBA.

  • Author

Personally do you feel a need to rma the board?  I will use the Intel ports going forward. Thanks for helping me out Johnnie!
