Disk Inactive - Strange Behaviour

Featured Replies

Hi Everyone,

I'm curious about something that happened to me today.  I am new to unraid and server setups in general so bear with me.

I watched a show that I downloaded last night.  I then went to my windows vm and logged into the server.  I noticed that my 2 disks where my media folder resides and parity were inactive while my cache was active.  I thought that was strange since I literally just finished watching the show and my sleep timer is 2 hours.

I then navigated to my media folder on the disk and I noticed that the file was inaccessible for a second while the disk spun up.  The show was not listed there.  I thought maybe I had watched it from cache or something like that but it wasn't there either.  The status of one of my disks changed to active and the file was where it should be in my media folder.  It's not really a bug but I don't know how I watched the show from an inactive disk.

What do you think happened?

Thanks in advance,

Ryan

The most likely thing is that the file was not on the disk that you thought.    If you browse from the shares tab (using the folder icon on the right) then unRAID will show exactly which disks(s) any particular folder/file resides on.
