Need Advice on SATA card

Featured Replies

I am at the point that I need a SATA card. I'm running a gigabyte UD3P. Only slot used is a pci video card. My 8 onboard sata ports are populated. I also plan to populate my 4020. That said, what is my best option with my current hardware to get an additional 12 ports...

to get an additional 12 today

PCI Express 2.0 x16 slots - Adaptec 1430 cards - 2 cards will give you 8 ports (4 sata ports each card about $90 each card)

PCI Express x1 slots - Monoprice Silicon Image SIL3132 pci express sata card - 2 cards will give you 4 ports leaving one slot free (2 sata ports per card about $15 each card)

You may need a pci video card once you populate the main x16 slot. The adaptec cards are know to work in one of 16x slot. Not sure about 2 or any of the others. All the cards mentioned work do in unRaid.

I should mention the best option is to buy as you need. Prices change and future hardware may allow for a better combination.

I've been following this MB (intel version) so I have a interest in what you find out. Which version do you have? I just noticed you may not have the version I based my suggestions on so you may be short on the slots. GB has at least 3 version of the UD3P

cheers db.

My board is a EP45-UD3P.

You got the intel one..the recommendation is as good as it will get for now. The MB has not had that level of testing so no one can't say for sure stuffing all those cards will work as described.
