February 5, 201016 yr I'd be delighted if somebody could explain the following to me. I have a cache drive under 4.5 and most of the shares are cache-enabled, which seems to work fine. I also use the cache drive to temporarily store data in a dotted, i.e. not rsync'd, directory. Now it would appear to me that I could very quickly move data out of that directory into a cached user share by logging into the server and issuing a move command (e.g. mv /mnt/cache/.tmp/xyz.tgz /mnt/user/share/). But it turns out that this operation takes forever, i.e. is no faster than mounting both the cache drive and user share and performing a silly drag & drop operation. Why is that? Since the data doesn't need to leave the cache drive before the mover script is activated, this shouldn't involve any file copying, which it seems it does, though. I am confused ... as so often. Thanks in advance, Carsten
