October 7, 20169 yr So I went to access my NAS and I could not access the data. Normally when/if this happens I automatically reboot my unRaid system. After rebooting I was able to pull up the GUI and then discovered that one of my disk had the Red X. I run with 3 disk and a parity disk. The other disks appear to be fine as they have a green dot next to them. After reading several post including "Need Help? Read me first!" I checked for loose connections, bad cables and I ran the different logs (Please see attachments). I ran the "SMART extended self-test" and the result was "Completed without error" From my very limited abilities I think the drive, motherboard and controller are good. Therefore, I was going to re-enable the drive. However, before I do that I thought I should check with the experts and see if someone could read my logs and tell me if they concur or if I should do something else. tower-diagnostics-20161006-2214.zip
October 7, 20169 yr Disk shows one pending sector, but since it passed the extended SMART test it should be fine and you can attempt a rebuild. Next time grab the diagnostics before rebooting, so we can see what happened.
October 7, 20169 yr Do you know how to rebuild the disk? (I just had another user decide to rebuild parity when he had a disabled data disk.)
October 7, 20169 yr Author Thanks for the help. No, I really don't know how to rebuild the disk? I'm pretty good at following directions so I was going to search within the community. So I was going to start by re-enabling the drive. Is that different than rebuilding? Or is it one in the same, I re-enable so that I can rebuild?

There is no other way to re-enable the drive without setting a new configuration, which would make it impossible to rebuild. How did you think you were going to re-enable it? Sounds like you may have been headed down the same wrong path as that other user. Wiki: What do I do if I get a red X next to a hard disk?
October 7, 20169 yr Author I will follow the instructions from the link and will let you know how it goes. Thanks again for the guidance.
October 9, 20169 yr Author Just a quick update. Followed the above directions and at this point, it looks like everything is back to normal. Since there are no flukes, I was just wondering if I should do anything else? Thanks in advance for all your help. Todd
