October 8, 20169 yr Every time i try and create a new VM and add my video card to it i get the following error I have already tried moving the GPU to a new slot so it's out of the other devices iommu group. I also enabled PCIe ACS over ride and that did not do anything. Though im not 100% sure it's working. Every time i go into my VM manager im greeted with a You must reboot for changes to take effect so i cant be sure that its working even though i've rebooted several times. Any help would be appreciated 2016-10-08 23:18:13.305+0000: 3129: error : qemuProcessReportLogError:1701 : internal error: process exited while connecting to monitor: 2016-10-08T23:18:13.271873Z qemu-system-x86_64: -device vfio-pci,host=02:00.0,id=hostdev0,bus=pci.0,addr=0x5: vfio: error, group 1 is not viable, please ensure all devices within the iommu_group are bound to their vfio bus driver. 2016-10-08T23:18:13.271894Z qemu-system-x86_64: -device vfio-pci,host=02:00.0,id=hostdev0,bus=pci.0,addr=0x5: vfio: failed to get group 1 2016-10-08T23:18:13.271901Z qemu-system-x86_64: -device vfio-pci,host=02:00.0,id=hostdev0,bus=pci.0,addr=0x5: Device initialization failed 00:00.0 Host bridge [0600]: Intel Corporation 4th Gen Core Processor DRAM Controller [8086:0c00] (rev 06) 00:01.0 PCI bridge [0604]: Intel Corporation Xeon E3-1200 v3/4th Gen Core Processor PCI Express x16 Controller [8086:0c01] (rev 06) 00:01.1 PCI bridge [0604]: Intel Corporation Xeon E3-1200 v3/4th Gen Core Processor PCI Express x8 Controller [8086:0c05] (rev 06) 00:01.2 PCI bridge [0604]: Intel Corporation Xeon E3-1200 v3/4th Gen Core Processor PCI Express x4 Controller [8086:0c09] (rev 06) 00:02.0 VGA compatible controller [0300]: Intel Corporation Xeon E3-1200 v3/4th Gen Core Processor Integrated Graphics Controller [8086:0412] (rev 06) 00:03.0 Audio device [0403]: Intel Corporation Xeon E3-1200 v3/4th Gen Core Processor HD Audio Controller [8086:0c0c] (rev 06) 00:14.0 USB controller [0c03]: Intel Corporation 8 Series/C220 Series Chipset Family USB xHCI [8086:8c31] (rev 05) 00:16.0 Communication controller [0780]: Intel Corporation 8 Series/C220 Series Chipset Family MEI Controller #1 [8086:8c3a] (rev 04) 00:1a.0 USB controller [0c03]: Intel Corporation 8 Series/C220 Series Chipset Family USB EHCI #2 [8086:8c2d] (rev 05) 00:1b.0 Audio device [0403]: Intel Corporation 8 Series/C220 Series Chipset High Definition Audio Controller [8086:8c20] (rev 05) 00:1c.0 PCI bridge [0604]: Intel Corporation 8 Series/C220 Series Chipset Family PCI Express Root Port #1 [8086:8c10] (rev d5) 00:1c.3 PCI bridge [0604]: Intel Corporation 8 Series/C220 Series Chipset Family PCI Express Root Port #4 [8086:8c16] (rev d5) 00:1d.0 USB controller [0c03]: Intel Corporation 8 Series/C220 Series Chipset Family USB EHCI #1 [8086:8c26] (rev 05) 00:1f.0 ISA bridge [0601]: Intel Corporation Z87 Express LPC Controller [8086:8c44] (rev 05) 00:1f.2 SATA controller [0106]: Intel Corporation 8 Series/C220 Series Chipset Family 6-port SATA Controller 1 [AHCI mode] [8086:8c02] (rev 05) 00:1f.3 SMBus [0c05]: Intel Corporation 8 Series/C220 Series Chipset Family SMBus Controller [8086:8c22] (rev 05) 02:00.0 VGA compatible controller [0300]: Advanced Micro Devices, Inc. October 9, 20169 yr yes your gpu is in iommu group 1 which has alot of devices in it and must be split up into its own group for it to work, If you are not sure if acs override is working then goto the main tab on gui and click flash. Then scroll down to it should have the default part like this label unRAID OS menu default kernel /bzimage append pcie_acs_override=downstream initrd=/bzroot so if this part says append initrd=/bzroot and not append pcie_acs_override=downstream initrd=/bzroot then edit it manually then reboot server and check again,,, it should stay.
October 9, 20169 yr Author Seems like every device in my system is getting lumped into group one. The HP Ethernet controller is at the bottom of the motherboard and is still being grouped with the others. How can i break them out? I have already tried moving the card.
October 9, 20169 yr Seems like every device in my system is getting lumped into group one. The HP Ethernet controller is at the bottom of the motherboard and is still being grouped with the others. Did you check that is in your syslinux config file after reboot?
October 9, 20169 yr Author That was in the config but i found this in another thread pci-stub.ids=8086:10bc I added my own device ID, booted the system in non GUI mode even though i had UNRAID using the onboard GPU and im able to make the VM and pass the GPU though!
October 13, 20169 yr Author Sorry unfortunately this issue has returned. This was the bit of code i used previously to get it to work append pcie_acs_override=downstream pci-stub.ids=1002:6798 initrd=/bzroot However i needed to add a USB PCI card to pass through as well. It was not showing up as available to pass to i added this along with the top code in the config append pci-stub.ids=1912:0014 initrd=/bzroot,/bzroot-gui Now the GPU will no longer pass with the following error again. Any ideas? Execution error internal error: process exited while connecting to monitor: 2016-10-13T01:15:10.165448Z qemu-system-x86_64: -device vfio-pci,host=02:00.0,id=hostdev0,bus=pci.0,addr=0x5: vfio: error, group 1 is not viable, please ensure all devices within the iommu_group are bound to their vfio bus driver. 2016-10-13T01:15:10.165477Z qemu-system-x86_64: -device vfio-pci,host=02:00.0,id=hostdev0,bus=pci.0,addr=0x5: vfio: failed to get group 1 2016-10-13T01:15:10.165483Z qemu-system-x86_64: -device vfio-pci,host=02:00.0,id=hostdev0,bus=pci.0,addr=0x5: Device initialization failed
October 13, 20169 yr Author Oh and unfortunately i need the USB pci adapter. I have 3 usb items with the same manufacturer Only one of them works if i use the normal passthrough method on them.
October 13, 20169 yr Author I got it with some tinkering and reading some other threads!!! Appended it from 2 lines to 1 append pcie_acs_override=downstream pci-stub.ids=1002:6798,1912:0014 initrd=/bzroot it's all good
