Seagate Constellation ES.2 drives going missing

Featured Replies

In getting ready for dual parity I purchased 3 X 3TB drives.  Ran them through a few cycles of preclear and everything checked out good.  Installed one as my parity drive, rebuilt parity, and everything was good.  Added a second one as a data drive and again no problems.  Let the system sit for a bit because 6.2 wasn't out yet.  The mover tries to move files off the cache and unRaid is reporting that both of the drives are missing.  Odd but no data loss.  Some more preclearing to check.  Reinstall them and everything is good again.  And then the same thing.  Upgraded to 6.2.1 and still the same thing.  Not that I thought it would help.

Things I've tried:

Searching the forums.  Didn't find too much.  Did check the file system and it didn't show any issues. https://lime-technology.com/wiki/index.php/Check_Disk_Filesystems#Drives_formatted_with_XFS

Checking all the cables.  All are locking type.  Didn't see anything wrong but removed and reconnected all.

Moving the drive to different slots or connecting them directly to the mother board made no difference.

It's only these two drives.  Other drives in the same slots on the same cables work fine.  All the drives are in a Rackable Systems SE3016.  So a SAS expander connected by SFF-8088 cables.  Four sata channels.  I'm assuming that there is nothing wrong with any of that because I don't have any issues with the other drives.

I'm not sure what causes them to go missing but it appears to be time based.  I can spin down the drives and it will still work.  After some time both drives fall off.

I'm unable to shutdown the server because it hangs at unmounting drives.  Makes sense because two are missing.  I puttyed in and grabbed a syslog (just the tail is attached picks up where the firs diag ends) while that was going on.  After a hard reboot the two drives show as missing.  If I disconnect them wait a few seconds and plug them back in (got to love hot swap) unRaid sees them and will start as normal (see second log).

Any thoughts.  I only know enough to be dangerous.

Thanks
