6.2.1 Pass through share bug (not a bug)

Featured Replies

Good day Unraid crew,

I have 3 VMs.  My long time standing VM was easy via the GUI to pass through 3 user shares after the VM was initially setup.

Looking at the XML I see this

<filesystem type='mount' accessmode='passthrough'>

      <source dir='/mnt/user/Backup/'/>

      <target dir='backup'/>

      <address type='pci' domain='0x0000' bus='0x02' slot='0x01' function='0x0'/>

    </filesystem>

On that original VM I do not see any longer under standard or advanced the 'unRAID Share:' nor the 'unRAID Mount tag' I have passed through.  The shares are still passed through however.

The second VM I created after 6.2.1 shows the shares I added, however I had to keep clicking between advanced/standard/save to get them to display and I could only add 1 share to pass-though per save press.

The third VM refuses to show shares for mounting..

1 - can I manually edit the XML to include the share pass-through?

2 - Any chance the next release can ensure that shares can be passed/tagged via the VM Edit screen?

Thanks

Hi.  Here's what I just did to try and recreate your issue (I was not successful):

1)  Created a new Linux-based guest VM from the VMs tab.

2)  Toggled "Advanced View" to see the unRAID Share and Mount Tag options.

3)  Selected a path and typed in a mount tag.

4)  Added a second share / tag by clicking the green + symbol and set a share and mount tag there as well.

5)  Saved the VM.

6)  Edit the VM and both mount points and tags are still visible to me.

7)  Changed the tags and mount points and saved.

8)  Viewed XML for the VM and validated that the tags I updated were changed accordingly.

I see no issues on my end.

What browser are you using and does it have any type of ad-blocking component to it?

Thanks John,

I created the VM, started the VM, then installed/updated the Guest OS.

Once done, stopped the VM, went to edit and add my first share

I was able to pass through the shares to  Elementary OS 0.4 (Ubuntu derivative) by jumping back and forth between save/advanced/basic

I was unable to pass through the shares to Windows 7

So... rebooted the machine (only autostart is the Array and Crashplan Docker)

Tried via Chrome (only extension is Dark Reader), Firefox, and Midori on a linux laptop with no antivirus plugins

Tried via Chrome and IE on my wifes work laptop using Windows 7, disabled the antivirus plugin

.... Now

Original Elementary OS 0.3 from earlier 6.x days only shows shares under Edit XML, not XML Advanced View

Elementary OS 0.4 shows all shares under XML Advanced View

Windows 7 does NOT show shares under XML Advanced view.

1 - Can I add these tags manually via Edit XML

2 - How can I ensure these changes will persist going forward?

Anything else I can provide to help?

Thank you!

Those shares only work with Linux based guests, so not working with Windows.

In windows you can browse unraid through the network browser and the traffic is still going to be kept inside the unraid box.

Oh dang... I was hoping to setup the VM as segregated as possible from the network with a single share passed directly through where I could retrieve finished projects for distribution... different workgroup, aggressive firewall, etc.

Thanks Saarg

You can always try setting the network to use virbr0 instead of br0, and then it will be segregated from the external network. I'm not sure if this also includes NAT for outgoing connections, or whether it has no access to br0 at all.
