expanding docker container/cache pool setup

Featured Replies

hey guys,

- is there a way to expand the docker container size?

I set the container to 20GB on a 128GB cache drive originally. Now I have a 256GB available so I was thinking of expanding the container to occupy the whole 128 drive. What would be the best setup to take advantage of both SSD? Should I use them in a cache pool or leave the 128 outside of the array to host the dockers only and use the 256 as a single cache drive?

I am moving my setup from a MB with 4 SATAIII ports to a MB with 2 SATAIII and 4SATAII ports. If I end up Setting up a cache pool, I should probably leave them on the SATAIII ports. The rest of the drives would be on SATAII including the parity drive, would I see a significant performance hit moving the array from current SATAIII to SATAII? I'd think the network despite being gigabit is still the bottle neck here.

Stop docker service. increase size, restart docker service.

You don't need anywhere near that much space for docker.img though. 10 - 20GB is plenty, I recently shrunk mine from 30gb to 20gb

Ha, coincidence, but I just did the exact same, from 30 to 20, when I updated to 6.2 and had to recreate it anyway.

If the OP is filling up a 20GB docker image with a "normal" amount of containers, then very likely there is something wrong.

(normal being loosely defined as less than 20)

Also, I think advanced view needs to be toggled to see the image size to increase it. Could be wrong, didn't stop my docker to check.

no, it's not filling up, I just thought that with 2 SSD available I could dedicate one to just run dockers and host VM's. I'm upgrading my MB/CPU from a weak APU so will finally have the ability to play around with virtualization a bit. That is why i'm trying to figure out what would make the most sense to do with the two SSD's.

I have my docker.img on a SSD mounted with unassigned devices and a few virtual disks for Windows, Mac, Linux and Unraid-VMs

I then have a 2TB cache for my appdata and as a PVR recording share as well as general cache duties.
