October 14, 20169 yr So i have a dell PowerEdge R720. Its onboard controller is a perc h710, aka SAS2208. Im wondering if i can flash it to IT/passthrough mode. Or in a last ditch effort, use the the backpane and just run a normal controller. I assume the 2 sas connectors on the backpane are pin compatible with normal controllers. https://forums.servethehome.com/index.php?threads/lsi-raid-controller-hba-equivalency-mapping.19/
January 14, 20179 yr I too have the same raid controller and haven't been able to find anything on crossflashing. did you ever resolve this?
January 14, 20179 yr I believe someone recently tried and there's no it mode firmware for lsi2208 based controllers, get one with 2008 or 2308 chipset.
January 14, 20179 yr Author I believe someone recently tried and there's no it mode firmware for lsi2208 based controllers, get one with 2008 or 2308 chipset. Thats ok it gets worse, if you flash a non dell firmware to that funny pci-e slot, the server wont even post. So i bricked a 310 that way. If you cross flash, it must be one that fits in a normal pci-e slot, not the backplane slot.
