October 16, 20169 yr Hi all, Occasionally getting a heat alarm caused it seems when running a windows 10 vm with 4 cores and 15 Gigs ram. Only appears to happen when I start kodi, or the native windows Film & TV app, which means it seems when I put some load on the system. Everything keeps working ok. Currently system specs are: Supermicro - X10SAE Intel Xeon E3-1246 V3 24 Gig Ram Unraid 6.2 GenForce GT 610 // Will be upgrading to 1060/70!! October 16, 20169 yr First clear suspect would be the thermal paste, is it applied correctly. Naturally, you'll check whether the CPU fan has quit. There's a utility (available in the NerdTools) called mcelog, which can provide more detail about machine check events. But I think the lines above are telling you everything you need to know. A CPU that is overheating on heavier loads is not being cooled correctly.
October 22, 20169 yr Author Sorry for the slow response, long work week. Thanks for the reply Robj, your "naturally you'll check weather the cpu fan has quit" comment proved correct. Naturally I had not checked that. Very relieved I had not cooked a 300 euro cpu!!
