Passthrough NIC to VM

Featured Replies

I need some assistance before I go round the twist.

I have  a HP Gen8 microserver that's been upgraded to a i5 2390T (for vt-d turned on in bios) and an additional NIC in the PCIe slot. I've managed to exclude Unraid from using the additional NIC ( using pci-stub line in the syslinux.cfg ) and it appears available to VMs when creating them.  The NIC is in it's own immou group (except for pcie bridge - would this be the problem?).

When I try to run the VM I get the "Failed to set iommu for container: Operation not permitted" error.

I've tried these fixes;

adding "vfio_iommu_type1.allow_unsafe_interrupts=1" to my syslinux.cfg

use the PCIE ACS Override option

I still get the error - anything else I can try?

Please post your syslinux, VM XML and IOMMU groups

If I remember correctly you might have problems getting pass through to work with your server. It might have been a gen7 server someone had a problem with, but don't remember the details.

I'll see if I can dig up the thread.

Well saarg, ::) that looks just the thing. What a phaff to get it working, even the instructions are vague.

First priority is to make the document long, then to confuse the light hearted  :P

You could also create a bridge for that nic and use that bridge for your vm.

I could do but I was under the impression that this could be a security problem. Gone baack to plan c and usong my old utm pc for the time being.
