Hard drive temps

Featured Replies

Do these seem way too hot?  They have been like this for a long time.  I use a Tower type case.  It has a couple fans but I could not even access or use and files for a couple days and the drives are all very warm to the touch.

I would say those are too damn hot. Everyone will have a different opinion but as an example, the one that is 59C translates to almost 140F.

My drives idle in the 26-28C and under load might creep into the 30-31C range. I would defiantly look at your fan situation.

They are definitely too hot, try to keep them  < 45C.

thanks a couple of my fans were not working!

WAY too hot ... as noted above.

Modern hard drives generally have operating temperature limits of 55 to 60 degrees ... and you do NOT want to be even close to those limits.

You should have notifications set to automatically notify you if this ever happens again.  You can very rapidly destroy your drives running them at those temperatures.
