Hi Guys,

 

Since updating to 6.3 ive been getting a lot of spam in my syslog. Not sure this is 6.3 specific as ive recently updated my motherboard, so I think its more likely to be that...:

This repeats every few mins and makes it quite annoying when Im checking my syslog! Is this something to worry about? If not, can I tweak something somewhere so this doesnt spam my log?

    Several things you can do -

     

    * Check for a newer motherboard BIOS.

     

    * Since the intervals of spewing are distinct, with many minutes between each, not periodic, a varying amount of time, start a tail running and you may be able to figure out what is related to these activities.  When a burst of them appear, check to see what action just happened, whether it's something you or another operator did, or something that occurred in a VM.

     

    * Upgrade to the latest, 6.3.0-rc3 at the moment.  May not help, but you never want to waste time on an older version, 'just in case'.

    The ACPI subsystem on your m/b is generating this event and no handler is set up to do anything about it other than just log it.  googling LNXCPU this seems to be a common problem maybe related to cpu frequency being changed.

    If updating bios or finding the right bios tweak doesn't stop the spam you can create your own acpi_handler.sh file that maybe looks like this:

    We're just commenting-out that line.  Put this file on your flash, say in the config directory.  Then you can add this line to your 'go' file

    That would prevent the messages getting logged.

    I've had this issue since at least somewhere in the 6.1 series so it's not new to the latest 6.3 series. My solution is pretty much what limetech outlined, creating the custom acpi_handler.sh to remove the spamming behavior.

    Im on the latest BIOS and there's not much in terms of tweaks in the ACPI settings in there, none of which have made a difference.
