CPU - FX6300

Motherboard - Gigabyte GA-990FX-GAMING

Ram- 12GB DDR3 - 1600Mhz

2 X 2TB Seagate HD

Samsung nvme 256GB M.2 Drive

SanDisk Ultra II - 480GB

XFX7870 GPU

 

Need more horse power for my VM(s)

 

Thinking of a Xeon - 2011-V3 Board ... but up for most ideas ..

 

Thinking of spending around £1200 on this new system for CPU- Motherboard - Memory .

 

 

 

 

 

 

Your big limitations are probably CPU and RAM.  The FX6300 is a 6,300 Passmark CPU and 12GB isn't much for a couple of VMs.  You can get up in the neighborhood of 9,000 - 11,000 Passmarks with a Haswell/Broadwell/Skylake Core i7 or Xeon E3 and you can go higher than that with a socket 2011v3 Core i7 Extreme Edition or Xeon E5.  For gaming I'd keep in mind that games don't tend to be overly multi-threaded and they do like fast cores.  So while an E5 makes a great server chip it's also worth looking at chips like the 6700k.
