Win10 VM startup repair fail/loop

Featured Replies

Hi Chaps, hope you can help.

My Windows 10 VM has been working fine for a few days but now won't reboot. I think it may be related to me trying to shrink the size of the image but I don't know. The end result is that on boot Windows goes into startup repair which fails and then gives you various options all of which do nothing to help. I have tried changing settings in the UEFI bios to no avail. It is almost like the VM just can't detect the image file any longer.

On reboot a very brief message appears before the Boot from CD Rom message appears: Boot failed. Windows Boot Manager

Thanks,

Adam

I'm hitting this too, did you ever get it figured out?

I've had this for two different reasons.

First the win10 installation ran out of disk space.  Nothing I did in the repair screen worked, until I guessed it may be space related and increased space in the unraid gui.

Second, when windows has done a major upgrade the vm fails to boot with more than one cpu assigned.  Had to temporarily reduce cpus to 1 and then once the updates were finished assign back to more.
