November 4, 20169 yr Good afternoon, Every so often I get a bug to try an fix my UnRaid Server. When I went to my PlugIn's and ran Fix Common Problems, I got the following messages (see attached) regarding Apple/apple and various appdata settings etc. The other matter is an unknown "share" with a long number string and multiple sub-directories that someone suggested is probably from a "failed" Crash Plan back in April. I would like very much to do as suggested merge Apple and apple, delete the number string share and my Backup shares and remove my Apple AFP Time Capsule that failed totally. Despite changing my shares globally, I can't seem to delete the unnecessary shares or remove my Apple AFP and would appreciate suggestions. Thanks, Dave
November 5, 20169 yr Author Hi Trurl, Through the normal procedure, but some of the files seem to come back even when deleted. Unless I'm missing something, I'm not exactly sure what to do. I've had some success deleting the files within the directories but not the "Share". The other problem is that I created and Apple AFP per the Wiki but it kept using all of my space so changed to CrashPlan but don't seem to know how to delete the Apple AFP and still see it listed in UnRaid and on my Mac! Finally I still have both Apple and apple and can't quite see how to combine and or eliminate the bad one though perhaps it would be easier to remove both and start over. My concern would be the potential loss of anything previously created/set-up. Dave Dave
November 5, 20169 yr Through the normal procedure, but some of the files seem to come back even when deleted. I can think of quite a few "normal procedures" for deleting files, which is why I bothered to ask in the first place. And if they were truly deleted there is no way they would come back, so whatever method you used fooled you. For example: From Windows, I could use Windows File Explorer to browse to the network shares and delete files. From Windows, I could map a drive to the share, then browse the mapped drive and delete files in Windows File explorer, or I could delete them from the command line. Probably similar and multiple ways to do this from Apple or other computers over the network. I could go to the unRAID console/telnet/ssh and delete them from the Linux command line, or use mc (Midnight Commander) to browse to the files and delete them. I could use a Krusader or similar docker to browse to the the files and delete them. A failure to delete the files could have different causes depending on the method used. You can delete the shares from the unRAID webUI when it is empty. Possibly you have hidden files still in them.
November 5, 20169 yr You might also try stopping the AFP service. I suspect that your Apple computers automatically create those files every time you delete them!
November 5, 20169 yr Author Thanks Trurl and Frank1940, Trurl, you were correct. I went to Windows (Parallels) and found "hidden" files. When I changed and removed them, UnRaid allowed me to delete the Share. Thanks! Frank1940, I've tried to stop the Service, but am not having much luck. It still seems to want to remain even though I've deleted all of my "backups". Is there another trick to stopping the Service that I'm missing or do I need to go to MC and look for a "hidden" bit of code in my batch file. Dave Got it this time, for whatever reason after a re-boot. Thanks again for your responses! D
