Can I write to the array during parity rebuild

Featured Replies

Hi guys,

I just re configured my UNRAID server and now have the parity rebuilding.  I know the array is available - but is it ok to write to it during the parity rebuild or do I need to leave it alone for 24 hours?

Cheers

Parity wise, it's ok to write to the array, BUT both operations will be done in much slower speed.

Thanks!

Just to emphasis the point, writing (or reading) from the array while it's doing a parity sync or parity check will significantly slow down both operations => If A is the time to do the parity sync; and B is the time to do your write operation, the total time if you do them at the same time will be notably more than the sum of those two times.  e.g. Total Time will be A+B+C, where C is the "penalty time" for doing both of them at the same time.
